Gelato e non solo…- By word of mouth it is the best advert we have ever had! There are no social media that can compete. Because “by word of mouth” (in Italian “ con il passaparola”) a recommendation is also a guarantee.

Talking to real people (not to an emoticon on a screen) it’s 100 times more reliable…not to mention fun! You get all the nuances that a computer screen can’t give you. Unfortunately, we all live in different places, and that’s when social media becomes a useful tool to make something known. So I am using the blog to heartily recommend to you a place that I got to know by passaparolaNo photo description available.

It was when some gelato-lovers, friends of mine, suggested me to try the small Gelateria Pasticceria  “ Crème in Siena, in a street where unfortunately no one goes for a relaxed stroll as it is , what we call: “Una strada di passaggio”. It  is even difficult to find a parking spot.

Nevertheless… Crème was full of people, they even placed a small terrace where it is possible to forget the traffic around and  sit down and enjoy their lovely ice creams. Here, I met the two lovely ladies who run the place: Gaetana and Valentina Sorrentino, mum and daughter. With her cascade of dark curls nicely gathered into a bun, Valentina is often in the laboratory mixing and pouring while Gaetana patiently explains  (and made me taste) the unique flavours they create.Image may contain: 2 people, people smiling, close-up

For me, it was love at first sight  (amore a prima vista) with their gusto “Mandorle al brandy” (almond with brandy flavour) that won the 1 st prize in an important competition: Gelato World Tour 2016.

Gaetana e Valentina are participating in  several competitions all around Italy. I ‘ve lost count, but in March they have been among the participants in Gelato Festival, with its 1st event  in Piazzale Michelangelo in Florence where they presented il gusto “ Cuor di mamma” (Mummy’s heart).  Want to know more? Well…Valentina told me it is a sorbet of pure organic  cocoa from  Avory Coast together with apricot stracciatella ….I need say no more…..( in Italian: un sorbetto di massa  di cacao pura biologica della Costa d’Avorio arricchita con stracciatella di albicocca)  Just by reading it my mouth is watering ( It: avere l’acquolina in bocca). Moreover, they also have been among the nine artisan ice cream makers (gelatai artigiani) from Tuscany participating to in the Mondiali del Gelato, this time with il gusto “ Ginger Power”.

At la Cremeria you don’t have only have gelato but cakes,biscuits and semifreddi as well. Valentina makes the best Sacher torta ever and Gateana’s tortina di riso has exactely the same lemony flavor that I remembered from my childhood and never found again in any patisserie (pasticcerie: places that I know very well…I must say)

So if you happen to come to Siena from Florence, at the exit Siena Nord , loc. Lo Stellino, on your right you can find this little piece di heaven. Crème, Gelateria Dolceria- Via Fiorentina, 151.There are parking spaces here and there, if you drive slowly you’ll find one. Stop, sit and relax: let me know.
