Rosemary: Herbal Remedy (by MR, AO, CH)
Arrosto & Rosmarino: I may be taking away some romance but, every time I cut a sprig of Rosemary, my mind goes directly to my grandmother and her unforgettable roast meat (arrosto) with potatoes. Here and there a few Rosemary leaves gave her dish the unmistakable aroma.
So this plant has, to me, the scent of holidays and family reunions, not happening anymore, it carries with it the memory of my grandmother’s green eyes: Rosemary-green as a matter of fact.
Rosemary is an aromatic plant that grows very well in the Mediterranean area. Every garden, orchard, balcony in Italy has its own rosemary bush very beautiful especially during blooming season.
As the Italian name recalls, Rosmarino, is a Mediterranean perennial plant typical of marine areas. The essential oil extracted from the plant has properties that, may be affected by the geographic origin of the selected plant. However, the main characteristics are maintained, whatever the origin.
Here is a list of : mucolytic / antiseptic /with effects on the nervous and endocrine systems. In addition, Rosemary also works as liver / gallbladder / pancreas decongestant – Useful for acne / couperose, Rosemary essential oil is a good antiseptic and it helps to heal wounds. It has a soothing effect on arthritic pain and muscle sprain. Last but not least, Rosemary acts as a natural preservative whether used in food or in the preparation of natural cosmetics.
In ancient times…
Rosemary was considered a magical plant protecting people and homes from witches and bad spirits.
Being quite impossible to go around with a Rosemary in a pot, in Middle Ages its wood was used to make amulets as good luck charms, easier to carry than the whole plant. The beneficial virtues (the real one) of Rosemary were known by both Greeks and Romans. They also used it as aromatic herb for cooking as nowadays.
Rosemary is a MUST to prepare roast , expecially lamb and chicken. It is not only used for its fantastic smell (we love it), but also because it aides animal fat (lipid) digestion.
But how to use it?
Here is some advice for your BenEssere (wellbeing).
Want to relax after a long working day? Take a warm bath! Mix 1spoon of vegetable oil (Almond Oil, Olive Oil, Grape seed Oil, the choice is big) with essential oils as indicated: 5 drops of Lavander oil, 2 drops of Thyme, and 5 drops of Rosemary oil. This mixture can be used for a relaxing massage before taking the bath.
Sore muscles after a hard gym section? Mix 40 ml of vegetable oil with 10 drops of Rosemary essential oil and 15 drops of Orange essential oil, then massage the muscles to relieve soreness.
Problems with cellulite? A bath may be the answer: add 6 drops of Rosemary essential oil and 4 drops of Juniper essential oil to warm water and … enjoy.
After a busy summer in the Sun, your hair, like ours, is weak and dull? Try this: add 3 drops of Rosemary essential oil to your shampoo (choose a neutral shampoo if possible) and use it twice a week massaging the scalp for 2-3 minutes. After a while, your hair will become stronger and healthier.
