Hosting the “excellence” among  Italian artisans,  every year the noble Villa Corsini, usually closed to public, in Via della Scala, opens its gates for a special occasion: the exhibition called “Artigianato e palazzo”. The exhibition started in  1995, from Neri Torrigiani’s idea and it was promoted by princess  Giorgiana Corsini.

Surrounded only by passionate true professionists of hand-made “ cose belle, artisans are ready to share with visitors their stories and  work and show live how things are created from their skilled hands right under our noses.  Along timeless perfectly groomed alleys, among statues, roses, cherry, and citrus trees, the “ must-see event “ is the occasion to visit this magic location.

I felt like stepping back in time, surprised not to meet ladies in nineteenth-century dresses under the main “Loggia” .

The Limonaie (traditionally  green-houses used for orange and lemon trees) hosts press, bloggers and artisans with a special corner reserved for the younger ones. All types of products were presented, from straw hats to bags and food, from home decoration to beauty products even coming  from different regions of Italy. …Only one requirement for all of them: excellence in every field.

Of course I was tempted by the delicious smells coming from  the different food stalls , but I found difficult to spend too much time eating as I was feeling the rush to move to the next “discovery” and listen to each artisan background and story.  The glass maker, the goldsmith , the lutist ( il lutaio) , the embroiderer, each one with a story to tell.

By the end of my visit I had bags full of business cards, small and big packages and my heart filled with beauty.

It was fun also to watch the public entering the garden and strolling around.  Mothers with children, ladies of all ages , elegant men in search of something hard to find… Everything was perfectly “mixed”,  keeping the style absolutely  chic without being pretentious , with a natural noble allure so hard to find these days

So, when is the next appointment? It should be in May 2019. Worth a visit, believe me!

There’s also this online store who sells handmade items crafted by local artisans, the site is localbazaar.co. Every product is handcrafted and every purchase helps artisans and their communities.
