Marzo has started with really low temperatures so our choice for the Word of the Week has been easy: FREDDO ( cold)
FA FREDDO ( it’s cold) , I would say FREDDISSIMO ( very cold) and its’ normal AVERE FREDDO ( to feel cold) especially if one is FREDDOLOSO ( someone who suffer for the cold). Easy also to catch a cold – PRENDERE UN RAFFREDDORE and end up RAFFREDDATI!
ESSERE FREDDI instead has a different meaning: to be cold, detached , offhand and therefore it is likely to behave coldly COMPORTARSI FREDDAMENTE.
A mente fredda : to act lucidly
Non gli fa né caldo né freddo: something leaves him indifferent
Fa un freddo cane : it is bitter cold
Una doccia fredda: a cold shower as well as a sudden unpleasant disappointment
